Effect of Super Brain Yoga on Sustained Attention Among Adolescents

BACKGROUND: Cognition is the process of knowing and includes thinking, understanding, perceiving, memorization, problem solving and host of other mental processes by which our knowledge of the world develops and making us able to deal with the environment. The ability to focus on specific stimuli in order to complete a planned task is an example of such complex cognitive activity, which is called sustained attention. Here a study to see the effectiveness of ancient easy practice on sustain attention among adolescents.
Aim: This study aims to observe the effect of 30 days of Super Brain Yoga on Sustained Attention among adolescents.
Methods: A study involving 139 participants aged 13-15 years from 7th and 8th grade divided into experimental (n=65) and control (n=74) groups. Intervention group practiced Super brain yoga once a day for five days a week over one month during assembly. Sustained attention was measured by the Digit cancellation test and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC IV) coding subscale before and after the intervention.
Results: Paired sample t-test used to analyze the changes between pre and post data of both the test. Significant improvement was seen in the experimental group (p<0.001) whereas there was no such significant changes in the control group.
Interpretation: This study indicates that Super brain yoga improves the sustained attention and also it helps students to be physically active.
Conclusion: Further high-quality randomized control trials are required however Super brain yoga can be implemented as a regular practice to improve the academic performance of the students in all schools.
